Radiation and Laser Safety Officer

- Operational responsibility of all processes and functions of Radiation and Laser Safety. Maintains administrative control of the functioning of the service. Hold regular staff meetings with medical physicists. Attend pertinent meetings, conferences and educational seminars synonymous with progress for the service and the RCHSP. Coordinate activities with other sections and departments. Interface with the hospital administration and other departments to coordinate efforts and resolve problems. Prepare monthly reports on the section’s productivity, goals and objectives, problems and achievements. Report Radiation and Laser Safety issues to the Hospital safety Committee in the approved format. Demonstrate fiscal accountability for department resources, clearly justify expenditure and achieves planned outcomes within allocated resources. Prepare the Service’s budget by submitting reports that highlight and justify the projected equipment, supplies and personnel needs. Evaluate new equipment and make recommendations to the hospital authorities, in conjunction with the related medical section heads. Evaluate radiation and laser safety aspects of the facility, and provide reports on structural changes needed for new services. Arrange for purchase of consumables and reagents to ensure a continuity of service. Monitor usage of reagent and consumables within the department, and examine and verify all invoices pertaining to departmental expenditure. Responsible for the daily care of all equipment and to follow-up with the Biomedical Department regarding repairs, maintenance and preventative maintenance programs. Prepare back-up plans for any major breakdown that may occur. Responsible for on-call duty Rota and performing unrelated duties which may be required during emergencies. Maintain all documentation pertaining to the section.
