Clinical responsibilities for ICU/CCU/PICU Head Nurse:
ICU/CCU/PICU Head Nurse is an effective practitioner able to
establish and maintain a high-quality evidence-based nursing service.
Using the framework and model of nursing to assess individual patients’ needs that is consistent with the Department of Nursing policy that reflects specialist needs and promotes patient participation in care.
Manages directs, supervises and supports the nursing staff in the
management of nursing care i.e. Providing professional and specialist advice on the provision of nursing care and participating in the delivery of care
Ensure clinical competency of staff in performing clinical procedures and introduce new clinical practices and techniques in an appropriate manner.
Ensure that appropriate nursing care is planned for individual patients based on need assessment and that each individual patient receives prescribed treatment and nursing care encompassing medical instructions and in conformance with established procedures and standards of care.
Review patient care patients’ appropriate patient goals, problems,
approaches, and revisions based on nursing needs.
Promote patient/family participation in care, identifying and meeting the learning needs of patients and their families.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical research projects, and evidence-based practice initiatives to enhance patient care outcomes and promote continuous quality improvement in the ICU/CCU/PICU.
Pursue ongoing professional development opportunities, including continuing education, certification programs, and participation in professional organizations.
Stay abreast of current trends, research findings, and advancements in critical care nursing practice to maintain clinical competence and improve patient care delivery.
Ensure the provision of timely and complete information and education for individual patients aimed at promoting independence, prevention of illness, and promotion of health.
Ensure the provision of psychological support by nursing staff to patients and families.
Maintain high standards of communication with Unit staff and external agencies when accepting or transferring patients. Apply research findings as appropriate to define the patient population. Participate in research when necessary.
Ensure safe and effective practice, Professional, ethical and legal
I. Adhere to RCMC guidelines for practice requirements and standards, for
example, safe handling, administration, storage and custody of medicinal
products.
II. Adhere to RCMC guidelines, policies and procedures.
III. Ensure that organizational goals are reflected in own and the nursing
teams’ objectives and in unit/department plans.
IV. Contribute to the development of the RCMC’s nursing policies and
strategies.
V. Maintain own professional and personal development in accordance with
the Saudi Health Commission, standards and professional guidelines.
VI. Establish and maintain relationships based on mutual respect
communicating on a regular basis with the patient/client, relatives and
carers in the provision of care and services.
VII. Ensure appropriate systems are developed and operational to facilitate
dissemination of information within the unit/department team.
VIII. Adhere to the Data Protection Policy & Maintain effective records
management ensuring all documentation written or electronic is managed
as per RCMC’s guidelines.
IX. Adhere to the Code of Conduct, as per Human Resource policies and
procedures.
X. Ensure risk management arrangements are in place within the
unit/department.

Evidence-based practice
I. Promote a culture of research and evidence-based practice& care within the
unit/department to enhance person-centered care.
II. Act as a change agent, developing clinically effective practice through the
effective utilization and integration of evidence.
III. Create an environment which supports a culture of life-long learning and
reflective practice for all staff.
IV. Ensure systems and processes are in place to support effective mentoring
of relevant staff.
Environment
I. Maintain a safe and clean environment for staff, patients/clients and visitors
by ensuring compliance with legislation, policies and protocols including
health and safety, healthcare associated infection, risk management and
critical incident reporting.
II. Ensure staff awareness of environmental issues and take appropriate action
as per RCMC policy.
III. Participate in the analysis, assessment and management of actual and
potential risks to health and well-being.
IV. Ensure safe and effective use of equipment as per RCMC policy.
V. Ensure near misses, incidents, accidents and faulty devices are recorded,
reported, investigated and learning disseminated as per RCMC policy.
Multi-professional working
I. Establish systems and processes to ensure effective communication and
continuity of patient/client care, liaising with multi-disciplinary/multi-agency
teams and community services.
II. Ensures regular staff meetings involving other personnel when
necessary. The Nurse Manager shall create an environment, which is
conducive to appropriate, open, honest and frank discussion.
III. Attend meetings and forums, representing the unit at various levels both
within RCMC and external agencies.
IV. Ensures the development of the unit team encouraging staff to contribute
their views and ideas as appropriate.
V. Ensure that all clinical and other information is gathered, stored and
passed on to relevant departments/personnel, and information is
accessible only to authorized personnel and is stored in accordance with
RCMC policy.
VI. Ensure that the unit atmosphere is conducive to the reception, treatment
and care of the patient taking action when this is not the case.
VII. Encouraging clients and their carers to comment on the quality of services
they receive.
VIII. Participating in establishment and maintenance of good working
relationships with all other units and departments on-site and elsewhere
within RCMC

unit/department.

III. Develop strategies for communication between staff, patients/clients,

I. Ensure appropriate delegation to nurses and health care support workers
and monitoring of outcomes for effective care/service delivery.
II. Challenge appropriately and confidently where standards of care fall below
that which the Unit Head Nurse/Charge Nurse would expect.
III. Contribute to budget management within the unit/department, to ensure
services are managed in accordance with yearly financial instructions.

appropriate selection of products which meet relevant quality and safety
standards
Education
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing
• Preferred Master’s in Nursing
Experience
• For Non-Saudi Minimum of 7 Yrs. Experience
• For Saudi Minimum of 5 yrs. Experience
Skills
Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or
without reasonable accommodations that the essential functions of the job can be
performed

The Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu was established as per a Royal Decree issued by HM King Khalid - May Allah have mercy upon him - in 21 September 1975 (16 Ramadan 1395H). The Royal Decree read “A Royal Commission shall be formed to execute the necessary infrastructure plan for the preparation of Jubail and Yanbu Cities as industrial areas. The Commission shall have an independent legal personality”. An independent budget was dedicated for the Royal Commission.
